Pencil sketch scanned and coloured in Photoshop.

A little macaron pattern I whipped up after finding myself staring at the beautiful shopfront of La Belle Miette (http://labellemiette.com.au/mac/) during lunch. Must go inside soon to buy one - or some!

A private commission to paint beautiful Tess the dog, who sadly passed away recently. xx

Hello! So I’ve been MIA with this blog as of late, due to a pile up of projects along with juggling full-time work. But I’ve definitely been busy with art projects and will start updating all the details of what’s been going on over the next couple of days.

To start off with, some quick sketches I’ve done while out and about on the train and at cafes.

Flight. Pencil then scanned and coloured in Photoshop.
A little personal project from an idea which came about months ago, but which I only just had time to work on. Loved doing this painting though… it was a lot more therapeutic than I realised.

Light and Shade, digitally painted on Photoshop CS5
A piece inspired by me wishing it would be summer in Melbourne already! This might sound a little strange but during sunny days, especially the rare ones this past winter, I always notice how nice tree/building shadows look when falling across the roads so I’ve been wanting to try this in a painting for a while. Then it evolved into a piece based on ‘Life Pleasures’ for an art comp (who doesn’t like just enjoying the sunshine with a best friend?) and this piece was born.

Thankyou to my lovely friend Bec who let me use her amazing photos of Darwin as a reference for this painting.

"

I’ve been drawing my whole life and I’m still chasing that emotional charge it gives me every time I draw a line. I pour my heart into everything I do and seek out things around me to refill it. Whether it’s the simple sound of laughter, the memories of people or places I miss or even something as pure and beautiful as standing in front of Degas’ ballerina sculpture, they fill my heart with energy. Trying to capture that energy and translate it is what keeps me going.

So work really, really HARD but more importantly LIVE because it’s what gives your work meaning.

Cafe sketches, mechanical pencil + cartridge paper
A little collection of sketches done while loitering around in a cafe in Melbourne yesterday. I still get a bit nervous when I sketch people in public, because let’s face it, 1) noone likes getting stared at by a total stranger and 2) people get funny about seeing themselves (or a version of themselves) put down on paper. And then there are those awkward moments when you’re staring at someone while sketching frantically and then they suddenly look straight at you!
That aside, I really enjoy watching people interact with eachother and trying to capture all the different expressions and body gestures. Don’t get to do this often but will make a big effort to do more of these in the next few weeks.

Thank you to lovely @laniebeloved for my unexpected and much-needed present. I feel very lucky to have such supportive friends who remind me of what’s important, especially during the times when I forget it myself. Xx (Taken with Instagram)
